Domaine Armand Rousseau is revered as one of the grand old domaines of Burgundy, resplendent with 14 hectares (half Grand Crus) and noble old vines. This is one of Burgundy’s greatest domaines any way you want to look at it – in history, in holdings and in quality of wine. Dating back to the 1930s when Armand was one of the first of five domaines to defy the negociants and bottle their own wine. The Rousseau name is synonymous with Gevrey-Chambertin; Armand passed the reins to Charles who on retirement passed control to his son Eric.

On the nose
Aromas of exotic spices, grilled meats, cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, licorice and loamy soil
On the palate
Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it was the most introverted, tightly wound wine in the cellar on the day of my visit. Broad-shouldered and elegantly muscular, it's bright and precise, concluding with a penetrating finish.
Product Notes
Regarding winemaking, simplicity is key. For all wines around 90% of the grapes are destemmed. All the vine fruit is placed in open stainless steel tanks, where it is fermented for 18 to 20 days. During fermentation between 31-34 degrees, the juice is gently and continuously pumped over with regular treading to release colour and tannins. After fermentation, the wines are delicately pressed in a pneumatic press and are allowed to settle for 24 hours. Finally, the winemaker transfers the wine to oak barrels. Here, malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. The wine is aged for 18 months in before bottling. Every Armand Rousseau wine is released two years after bottling.
