Six generations of stubborn, competitive growers and one equally spirited winemaker- that’s the Oliver family. Living smack bang in the middle of McLaren Vale, they flourish on producing perfect parcels of fruit on their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property. Their collection of small batch, handcrafted wines speak of both the variety and vintage, capturing a time and place, while continuing to document the family’s ongoing 180 year relationship with the land.

Tasting Notes

When to drink
Encourage cellaring for up to 5 years
On the nose
Violets, blackberry pie, mocha, spice and mineral notes.
On the palate
Savoury spice, mocha and plummy sweetness through the palate. Layers of flavour, the tannins are fine, silky and integrated perfectly—a wine with plenty of lengths and mouth-filling generosity.
Product Notes
HJ was a lover and a fighter. He fought to win the affections of his sweetheart Marjorie before serving in WWII. He then fought to realise his vision of seeing the Taranga property produce only high-quality grapes. This commenced with his planting of the ‘old block’ Shiraz in 1948- the same McLaren Vale vines that form the base of this reserve Shiraz today.
