Bernard Baudry, son of a winemakers’ family, started his professional life as a vine-tending consultant at the Tours laboratory, where he worked with Jacques Puisais. He had previously studied oenology in Beaune. His 5 years on the job served as an excellent apprenticeship when in 1975 he decided to start his own estate with 2 hectares of vines. The domain now has 32 hectares of vineyards spread across the AOC Chinon, in Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon.

Tasting Notes

When to drink
Enjoy now or cellar for 1-2 years
On the nose
This has the meaty, earthy, animal nose, so typical of top-notch Chinon
On the palate
a complex, supple, sappy palate with roasted meat, wet earth, blue fruits and a floral lift. With its mouth-puckering tannins and well-balanced acidity, it’s a wine for the table.
Product Notes
Organic. 100% Cabernet Franc. Le Domaine hails from Baudry's high-sited vines, which lie on a plateau above Chinon's première côte. The lion's share of the fruit comes from vines with an average age of around 35 years, planted on sandy, limestone-rich soils, while 20-30% is drawn from slightly younger vines on gravelly soils. This is not a modern, pure, fruit-driven red but rather it harks back to more rustic, complex, sauvage Chinons of old.
